Best news this week was that I got into Narrative Forms. I'm really looking forward to it, for many reasons, but especially for the discipline I'll have to impose on myself to do all the assignments. Writing is hard and takes a lot of time and energy, so after coming home from eight hours of work I don't often want to do it. On weekends it's so easy to find other things to do; my procrastination tactics from college work just as well on putting off writing stories as on doing problem sets or a paper. But I think having deadlines and (hopefully) specific, well-crafted assignments will make it easier to sit down and get started, which is really the hardest part. |
