Back online, at last.
Some quick links: I've always been a Kucinich man, myself, but I'd sure as hell rather support Dean than most of the other Democratic candidates. So I'm sorry to see his poor results in Iowa and especially sorry to see the media go into attack mode faster than a rabid bulldog. Nonetheless, this compilation of remixes of his infamous Iowa concession speech is worth a few chuckles. This weekend's NY Times Magazine has two stories of note. One is a look at copyright and the future of intellectual property, which everyone should read to get a taste of one of the ways in which corporations continue to expand their reach. The second, well, don't read it unless you're ready to spend the rest of the day feeling some deadening combination of disgusted, disappointed, and depressed. I made the mistake of reading it before I went out, so it should have spoiled my whole evening, except that, as a spoiled first-world white male consumer, I'm accustomed to ignoring the overwhelming obligation I owe the rest of the world for propping me and mine up while they get degraded, humiliated, and violated. What Americans want, be it drugs, new markets/new sources of cheap labor for our corporations, or sex slaves, Americans get. ugh. I hope/fear I will be able to sleep tonight. |
