Pleonastic Ephemera

The Minor Fall, The Major Lift was one of my favorite blogs, in fact one of the few Manhattan-style* blogs I could stand, and now its anonymous (at least to me) author says he/she (pretty sure it's a he, though) is taking a long, probably permanent hiatus. Damn, one fewer way to kill a few minutes with a chuckle at work. At least I still have Overheard in New York.

* Manhattan-style = some mixture of the following: gossipy but trying hard to project an ironic distance from gossip and celebrities; obsessed with media and the New York thought-industry; hip to whatever the current alt-mainstream (I wish I had a better term for this -- think something that you aren't suprised to see written about in the Voice but are a little surprised to see in the Times, two months later) music/film/art fascination is; and always, always steeped in the Now. Gawker is the archetype. This blog may qualify in at least one of those categories, though I would argue that, as a nerd, I don't really belong. The beauty of TMFTML was that it transcended this category by finding just the right level of cynicism and self-deprecation and alcoholic jokes.
