This past week The Simpsons was trumped as the home dinnertime network TV show of choice by Jeopardy!, thanks to the winning ways of Ken Jennings. I watched because I can't wait to see the guy lose, but, as the season just ended, the next chance for that won't be until September. It's not that I really don't like him, although his teetotaling Mormon-ness and that measured cock of the head each time he answers may start to get annoying soon, but conflict is the essence of drama and watching him clean up on opponent after opponent is boring. I want to see him sweat. I want to see the question writers rejoice after finally finding the right mix of categories to stump him. That is, unless they're being asked not to fire the big guns yet, seeing as Ken has brought Alex Trebec et al. a nice jump in ratings. |
