Pleonastic Ephemera

Dan Froomkin at the Washington Post writes an online column called White House Briefing that I love to read. It's sort of bloggish like Howard Kurtz's Media Notes in that it sums up and links to numerous stories, but unlike Kurtz, Froomkin doesn't worry so much about maintaining balance. At times it feels quite partisan against the current Administration. I'm not sure where this column fits in to the Post's reporting, as it's clearly not objective journalism yet it's not marked as Op/Ed; the page describes itself thus: "Check here weekday mornings for a quick look at the most interesting items about the president and his staff from major newspaper, magazine and broadcast Web sites and weblogs." My guess is that Froomkin would be critical of a Kerry administration, if that should come to pass.

At any rate, today's column is about the Vice President, who has found a way to get me to compliment Yankees fans: he attended a game last week and they booed him loudly. Yankees fans are onto something: he currently enjoys a national approval rating of 20%. Look for his heart condition to suddenly take a turn for the worse, followed by the adoption of Rudy Giuliani as new running mate if Bush's future doesn't pick up soon.
