Avi's former roommate, who is also the apartment broker who got us our place, came over for dinner last night. She brought us a copy of her new firm's snazzy, full-color 2003 catalog, I guess just for us to ogle, because it sure as hell has no relevance to any apartment-hunting we will be doing in the foreseeable future. The cheapest condos revealed by a quick skim were on the upper (east) side of a million dollars. How about 10 rooms/5.5 baths on Fifth Avenue in the 60s? Rare opportunity to own a pre-war condominium encompassing a full floor of a top building in one of the world's most prestigious locations, and wonderful park views from huge single pane windows -- a steal at $9,995,000. All in all, a fascinating glimpse into how the other half lives. If it weren't printed on glossy paper, I'd consider using it for papier cul.
After a little Vitamin I washed down with Jameson's, the repercussion of this evening's ninety minutes of squash has been upgraded from painful aching to pleasant exhaustion. Time for some light reading and, if all goes well, an early arrival of the Slumber Sylph. |
